Today we’d like to introduce you to Britney Porter.

It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?

Hello and thank you! I appreciate this opportunity. To say the least, my story has been very interesting. I have found much inspiration through my past experiences as an underrepresented consumer, entrepreneur, and business professional. Much of my branding and business background has required a deep knowledge of finance, business, technology, legal and balancing it with creativity & advisory. I also had a unique upbringing, where I was influenced by my family lineage, science, math, nature, and creativity. Those were all strong sources of inspiration for me. My grandparents, for example, played a huge role in who I am today. My Grandmother was a college-educated executive for a science-based fortune 100 company and basically was a hidden figure due to her gender and ethnicity and my Grandfather came from a legacy of farmers who were pillars of their community and who took pride in ownership and agriculture in the south. I’d spend most of my childhood navigating in and out of these spaces. This led me to pursue a career in corporate America. For 8 years, I held business development and branding roles at an executive level at large corporations and startups, and over the last 6 years, I have transitioned into entrepreneurship as a Business Advisor/Consultant. Overall, my professional trajectory has greatly influenced my perspective and life’s mission. Today, I am committed to working with and supporting as many under-represented entrepreneurs, thoughtleaders and investors through education and advisory on our ever-changing marketplace and society.

I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?

HB+ researches identifies and documents the behaviors, wants, needs, and demands of complex cultural populations. Based on trends and patterns, that influence outcomes and experiences; I am able to use such in-depth analyses to create bold business solutions that drive social transformation. That being said, me and my business model are essentially viewed as a unicorn. Other market research and business intelligence firms are dominated by men and aren’t very inclusive in terms of research, partnerships, and employment. Their main focus isn’t creating a more equitable business world and truly supporting the economic mobility of the BIPOC communities. This was also the same challenge in corporate America. Ways that I am actively overcoming these issues are through focusing on education and building awareness and community around the importance of under-represented entrepreneurs having access to accurate market insights. I also hosts events ranging from masterminds, TedTalks, and meetups, where we discuss institutionalized challenges and the current state of our culture. Through such conversations, I am able to identify areas of improvement and use such insight to build bold solutions.

Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?

HB+ Porter is striving to be the global leader in creative, merchandising and business strategies for emerging Black and Brown entrepreneurs in various markets ranging from retail, fashion beauty, and related industries. Me and my partners provide a variety of services such as brand audits, consulting, financial advisory, risk advisory, tax, and legal services. We are looking to serve 300,000 of Black/Brown professionals globally in the next 6 years. As of now, to the best of my knowledge, I own the only global provider of market research and analyses that focuses on mobilizing Diaspora communities worldwide. My digital business products and consultations provide clients with new and fresh insight on consumer behavior, industry, social and political trends as they affect Black/Brown communities worldwide and how these events and patterns impact business, investor, and consumer decision making. Understanding the power of this type of data, can quickly put entrepreneurs at an advantageous position within their respective industries. I believe that Black/ Brown entrepreneurs are at a higher risk of business failure is because we are applying and using information and data irrelevant and out of touch with the needs, desires and demands of our communities. If HB+ can equip emerging leadership with the right type of analytical tools and resources, we believe that we can see a drastic increase in economic growth

What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?

My best piece of advice… well pieces of advice would be to keep showing up and to be committed to your dreams. Invest in your goals by aligning yourself daily with the right types of people, communities, content, and resources out there. Stay focused and clear of distractions.

Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?

Success means liberation. It means to have the freedom to be yourself in a world that labels everything. That is the ultimate form of success for me.

What’s next for you?

What’s next for me is expansion. I am really passionate about building up a strong network of professionals and integrating capital/investment into the business model of HB+ I want to provide capital for Black startups from Black Investors. Beginning with seed funding at the early stages. I am also planning on launching more e-books on cultural research, progressive economic models and Black economic history.
